Classic Manhattan 5 Minutes or less

Ingredients

  • crushed ice
  • 2.5 oz Rye Whiskey (Bulleit)
  • .75 oz Sweet Vermouth
  • 2 Dashes of Angostura bitters
  • 1 twist of orange peel (taking care to make it thin)

Directions

  1. In a rocks glass, fill 1/3 to to 1/2 with crushed ice.
  2. Measure and pour your Rye Whiskey, Sweet Vermouth, and Bitters directly into the glass.
  3. Stir for no more than 30 seconds.
  4. Twist the orange peel to release oils, lightly rim the glass with it, and toss it into your drink (optional).

Notes

This is my take on the classic manhattan. You'll notice an increased whiskey to vermouth ratio. This is personal preference - I prefer to taste the subtle nuances the bitters offer the drink instead of it being overpowered by vermouth. I also prefer this drink on the rocks. The flavor should be smokey, slightly sweet, and darkly floral. I get orange and char in the bouquet. My personal favorite.
